The Building Arts Network
The Scottdale Mills was purchased by Robert and Barbara Blazer, the owners of Your Dekalb Farmer’s Market, in 1989 with the vision to create a community for artists and makers.
During the past 2 years, the property has undergone extensive renovation and revitalization towards this goal. The exterior has been refreshed with new paint, LED lighting and plantings. Studios have been renovated with new HVAC systems, new wiring, and LED lighting. The Building Arts Network is located in a quiet lot off East Ponce De Leon Rd. in Scottdale, GA, conveniently located less than one mile from the Dekalb Farmer’s Market and 2 miles from I-285. The Stone Mountain Bike Path is also easily accessible. Professional Artists and Designers interested in leasing space are invited to submit the following for consideration and to tour the studios:
This is an exciting new opportunity for Artists and Makers to be part of a creative and supportive community! |
Site History
The Building Arts Network was once the "Scottdale Mills, a prime example of Southern industry, closed its doors in 1982. Imported textiles by that point were making it difficult to keep what was once one of the premier mills in the state of Georgia open. The Scottdale Mills Village was built up between the years 1900-1915. It stood as an example of rural planning arising around an emerging Southern industry."

We are currently working on a scaled drawing plan which will divide this unit into 4 individual studios. There will be a 10 ft wide hallway in the middle of the space providing access to both 10'6" garage doors. Both garage doors are located on the ground level. Ceiling height in the center of the space is 15 ft.
Property Pics
There has been extensive work done around the property. All of the perimeter trees have been pruned and a few new trees have been planted. We've also planted a row of golden bamboo to privatize the north side of the building. In addition, all of the exterior wood, steel posts and beams have been sanded, primed and painted. The lot is located just off East Ponce De Leon, and is amazingly quiet and accessible.
